THE HISTORY

The Austin Ice Cream Festival was born in 2007 for the local Austin community to celebrate Summer fun and a mutual love of ice cream.  Each year, this community-wide festival draws thousands of families and friends to central Austin to play games, participate in contests, enjoy Austin's live music scene and, of course, eat TONS of ice cream!

In 2018, event producer, Forefront Networks, was ready to reinvent the festival.  We created 2 vibes for the festival - a Daytime family-friendly event & an adult night out, After Dark.  I was tasked to lead the team through the festival's brand repositioning and identity design that would create excitement and energy for the event.  

The Austin Ice Cream Festival's logo needed to convey energy with a vibrant, youthful and light-hearted spirit. The wordmark's weighty letter forms, bold color and clean whitespace give the event an updated, modern vibe. Graphic illustrations add personality to the brand along with a retro 80's vibe with the use of bright high-contrast colors creating excitement and energy.

When The Sun Sets, Another Party Begins... AFTER DARK

After Dark at Austin’s Ice Cream Festival is bold and energetic with a cheeky, light-hearted spirit. The same weighty letter forms, intense colors and clean “dark” space give the event a modern vibe, while our retro character illustration and trendy graphics add personality and a nod to 70’s & 80’s nostalgia keeping it feeling familiar yet alluring.
